Aqua Femdragon

Don't normally submit stuff like this to dA but I really like it from a technical perspective.


This was a real fun experiment from start to finish. Normally I draw using stick figures as a base for posing and then work from there, but here (and in drawings since this one) I've been using shapes and forms instead. The painting process was intesting too because I wanted to try the "individual pass" technique.

Basically the shading, ambient occlusion, skin effects, etc are on their own seperate layers with different blending modes depending on the layer. This basically means I could do things like change her color without sacrificing the shading, specular, etc and was an interesting workflow with highly satisfactory results!



I'm so happy with this I hope to use this technique again for future paintings as I was able to get tons more detail with a lot less hassle and I've always wanted to push more detail in my artwork so yay!
