Functional Spider-Man Suit Design

Description

You know what I like about the new Spider-Man movie besides the fact that it was awesome? The costume design and "origin" was a great addition that made so much more sense since Peter is a scientist and not a design student (even though he's a photographer and has some artistic merit). Looks more like a sports suit to provide function than a "look at me!" type suit that was originally intended for television appeal in the comics.

Then I thought about the original Batman suit compared to the one used in the latest Batman Trilogy and how much they contrast to each other. What if Spider-Man took this same route and his costume was designed to be more dark, stealthy, strong, but still symbolic? Designed primarily around functionality rather than looks, but looks still playing a significant role?

I thought this up on a whim during class some time last week. It's far less colorful to keep him from standing out if he wants to remain out of sight, but the red is slightly more saturated so that he looks more intimidating and dangerous if he ends up having to confront someone. (His psychology and artistic knowledge at work there).

Basically I've (hopefully) redesigned the suit to be much more protective against physical attack, but still allow for easy maneuverability (the leather is split into sections on the abdomen). I also decided to make the Spider symbol useful as well by providing additional protection against deadly force. (Sensing the proximity of danger and having super human reflexes doesn't guarantee he will always evade lethal force easily).

I also put the entire web-shooters outside of his costume (but they will be colored crimson red) for easier access.

Also, leave it to me to spell Aesthetic wrong, not to mention that I used it incorrectly... ^^;

Well, I hope you like it. :)

I apologize for posting on an older design work, but I like these sorts of designs where explanation is given to the reader/viewer to help bring the reader/viewer closer to the work. I'm trying to write myself, as I can't draw a straight line w/ruler. Big fan of the old Handbook of the Marvel Universe and its gadgets, suits, etc.

You've taken the military concept of the Bale batsuit and worked it for Spidey,  good call IMO. Parker NEEDS a costume like this, 'cause if he's wearing and repairing(sewing/patching) the suit, it would eventually wear out and look Frankenstein-ish with all the stitches and patchwork.

Goes to show even 'powered heroes' need protection.

Rant over. Nice work.
